Our mission
Zero Waste Hubs are part of an alternative waste infrastructure. We divert goods and materials from landfills and breathe new life into reusable resources to bring valuable, high-quality products to our local communities at affordable prices.
Our kaupapa
Te Kore, in Māori tradition, represents the realm of infinite potential - the place where everything exists as possibility just waiting to be realised. What the modern world calls “waste” is the perfect embodiment of Te Kore. It is only labelled “waste” because we have failed to recognise and harness its abundant potential. At the Zero Waste Hubs, waste is never wasted.
We stand for fulfilling waste’s potential through repair, reuse, redesign, and recycling.
Saving Auckland’s inorganics from landfill
The Tāmaki Zero Waste Hub is proud to receive, process and distribute reusable goods recovered from Auckland Council’s Inorganic Collection Service.
We invite marae, schools, community organisations, charities, up-cyclers and
re-users to collect recovered items — such as furniture, toys, bikes, cookware, whiteware and electrical appliances — free of charge from our warehouses. Please note: items can only be taken for reuse or upcycling, not recycling.
To become an Approved Collector of recovered items from our Wairau and Tāmaki Zero Waste Hubs please register here.
Our impact
In the past year, Tāmaki Zero Waste Hub has:
Received 1,034,799kgs of goods from the Auckland Council Inorganic Collection Service
Distributed 73,036kgs of reusable items back out to the community
Diverted 558,820kgs of materials from landfill
Since our Tāmaki and Wairau Zero Waste Hubs started operating in 2023, we’ve:
Distributed 465,000 kgs of reusable items to the community. That’s equivalent to 116 Asian elephants — or 93,000 pumpkins!
